The Papers of Paul A. Opler consists of documents dated 1874 to 2014, with the bulk falling from 1980 to 2000. The materials are related to his research and work in the study of Lepidoptera. Biography

Paul Opler is a semi-retired professor of entomology in the Agricultural Biology department at Colorado State University (CSU). He is also the assistant director of the C.P. Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity at CSU.

Paul Opler received his B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and his M.S. from California State University, San Jose. After returning from Costa Rica where he did his postdoctoral research, he worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C. In 1983, Opler transferred to Fort Collins where he was the section chief at the Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Research. Subsequently he served as a faculty affiliate with the Entomology Department beginning in 1987 and was appointed professor with the Department of Bioagricultural Science and Pest Management in 1997. He has authored over 200 books and papers on Lepidoptera.

Opler is married to Evi Buckner-Opler, with whom he has collaborated in classes, presentations, and Lepidoptera photography and observations.

Abstract

Each box transferred by Opler retains its original contents and order.

Acquisition

The Papers of Paul A. Opler was donated by Paul Opler to the University Archive in 2013 and 2014.

Processing

Processing was completed in August 2017. The collection was minimally processed with most materials remaining in their original folders. Metal fasteners were not replaced except when they were not functional. The collection was reboxed in archival record cartons. One box was reviewed for the presence of mold and was deemed clean.
