History

The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was launched in London in 1857. In 1858, the YWCA movement made its first appearance in the United States when New York City and Boston opened women's residences. The organization spread to different cities and countries as time progressed, and in 1892, the YWCA was established at Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University). The date of the disbanding of the YWCA at Colorado State University (CSU) is unknown, but the YWCA continues to operate in Colorado with chapters in Boulder and Pueblo. The YWCA describes its mission as one "dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all."
