Collection of Faculty and Student Profiles
Scope and Contents
The Collection of Faculty and Student Profiles consists of documents dated 1879 to 1974, with the bulk falling from 1899 to 1959. The collection contains data profiles of students and faculty at Colorado State University from the first class in 1879 through the fall of 1973. The data was collected as part of Dr. James E. Hansen's CSU History Project.
Many, but not all, of the files have a typed summary written by Dr. Hansen's assistant on the project, Joseph Weber. These summaries describe how and why the data was collected. Most of the student data is summary in scope and does not identify students by name, while the much of the faculty data includes name, department, and rank.

History
In the fall of 1972, Dr. James E. Hansen II, professor of history at Colorado State University, was commissioned to write a history of the university from its inception to the present. Funding for the project was provided by the CSU Foundation. The lack of a university archive at CSU delayed writing of the manuscript while Dr. Hansen and his student assistants located and collected historical documents from around campus. These collected materials were deposited with the university library and in 1975, the State Board of Agriculture (now the Board of Governors) formally established the Colorado State University Archive. Dr. Hansen's book Democracy's College in the Centennial State: A History of Colorado State University, was published in 1977.
