Biography

Wendel Diebel was a professor of piano and director of Colorado State University's keyboard division for almost 30 years.

Wendel H. Diebel was born on February 20, 1914 in Des Moines, Iowa. Diebel attended Juilliard School of Music in New York City on a full scholarship and performed his Piano Concerto #1 as a graduate student with the CBS Orchestra. He was a professor of piano at Colorado State University from 1948 to 1974 and wrote over 25 compositions, released two recordings, and performed across the United States. In addition to his work at CSU, Diebel was heavily involved at St. Paul's Episcopal Church as both the church organist and director of the choir. In 1991, the Wendel Diebel Memorial Keyboard Scholarship was established within the College of Music. Wendel Diebel died on May 29, 1997, in Fort Collins, Colorado.
