Scope and Contents

The Records of the Department of Civil Engineering consists of documents dated 1969 to 1978 and 1994. The collection consists of materials related to the department, including budgets, invoices, memos, correspondence, proposals, and information about conferences, seminars, and workshops. Much of the information relates to various professors' trips around the world, financial information, and water seminars. A photograph album documenting the 1997 flood on the Colorado State University campus is also included.

History

Since the 1938 recognition of the Department of Civil Engineering as its own entity, the department has grown significantly. Conferences, seminars, workshops, and institutes in the late 1960s and early 1970s reflect the continuing development of the department. The department collaborated with other departments on various projects; David Freeman, Evan Vlachos, George Radosevich are among the faculty the department consulted with.

Additional Description

Abstract

The Department of Engineering at Colorado State University (then the State Agricultural College of Colorado) began in 1883 with courses in practical mechanics and drawing. The collection contains financial records, memoranda, faculty trip records, seminar planning papers, and correspondence.

Arrangement

The materials were rearranged in chronological order as the collection was received in disorder.

The collection consists of 2 series in 3 document cases:

Series 1: Records, 1969-1975 and undated

Series 2: Photographs, 1997

Acquisition

The Records of the Department of Civil Engineering was transferred by the Department of Civil Engineering in 1978 and 1994. An accrual to the collection was donated by Marvin Criswell in May 2017, and another accrual was donated by Neil Grigg on behalf of the Civil Engineering department in January 2019.

The Papers of Maurice L. Albertson, the Papers of A.R. Chamberlain, and the Records of the College of Engineering contain material related to the Department of Civil Engineering.

Processing

Processing was completed in June 2016. Materials were refoldered in acid-free folders and housed in archival boxes. Metal paperclips were removed from the materials and replaced with archival clips.
