Scope and Contents

The Edison P. Lohr Collection of Visual Images from the Lindenmeier and Yampa Canyon Sites consists of documents dated 1937 to 1941 and contains slides of the Lindenmeier and Yampa Canyon archaeological sites. There are approximately 22 photographs and negatives of the Lindenmeier site, which may or may not duplicate the slides. A written description by Lohr of the slides for both sites is also included.

Biography

Edison Pike Lohr worked as a student assistant for Dr. Frank H.H. Roberts, Jr., of the Colorado Museum of Natural History from 1937 until 1940. During his tenure under Dr. Roberts, Lohr was involved in archaeological excavations of the Lindenmeier Site in Northern Colorado (1937-1940) and the Yampa Canyon Site in an area that is now part of Dinosaur National Monument (1939-1941). Lohr graduated from Colorado Agricultural College in 1949 with a degree in English. After graduation, he became a high school English and social studies teacher, working primarily in Arizona in the Navajo Nation. Lohr later worked as a historian for the National Park Service.

Acquisition

The Edison P. Lohr Collection of Visual Images from the Lindenmeier and Yampa Canyon Sites was donated by Ed Lohr in January 1977.

Separated Collections

Books and pamphlets on archaeology excavations and Native American history were removed and added to the cataloged Special Collection monograph holdings.

Processing

Processing was completed in July 2015. Materials were rehoused in acid-free folders and boxes.
