Scope and Contents

Records of the Public Relations Department consists of press releases dated January 2, 1992, to December 29, 1993. Press releases concern Colorado State University events and research. Releases dated January through August 1992 were issued on Office of Public and Media Relations letterhead, and subsequent releases were issued on Public Relations Department letterhead. The CSU Cooperative Extension and the Agricultural Experiment Station created many of the collection's press releases. Through August 1992, Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Communications issued press releases for the Extension and Experiment Station; beginning September 1992, the Public Relations Department issued Extension and Experiment Station press releases. Interspersed through the collection are submissions to CSU's calendar newsletter, Happenings, by CSU departments and community members.

History

The Public Relations Department, part of the Division of External Relations, communicates news and information about Colorado State University (CSU) to students, staff, and the general public. It issues news releases, publishes the Source weekly newsletter, and connects reporters with CSU faculty and staff who are experts in their fields. The department has had other names in the past. Before September 1992, the department was called University Public Relations, Office of Public and Media Relations, and previous to that, the Office of Information and Public Services. Previous to publishing the Source, the Public Relations Department issued CSU's event calendar newsletter, Happenings.

Acquisition

The Records of the Public Relations Department was transferred to the Colorado State University Archive by Public Relations Department employee Shelley Gomez in July 1996.
