The Papers of Frederick Wangaard consists of documents dated 1948 to 1967, with the bulk falling from 1963 to 1967. The collection contains primarily letters to or from Frederick Wangaard during his tenure at Yale University and Colorado State University. Biography

Frederick Field Wangaard was an international expert in the wood sciences and the author of approximately a dozen books on wood and its properties.

Fred F. Wangaard was born on January 3, 1911, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Christian and Hanna Marie Field Wangaard. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1933 with a B.S. degree in forestry. He later completed his Ph.D. in forestry. He married Laurie Crouch in Seattle, Washington, on December 31, 1936, and they had three sons, Fred Jr., Walt, and David. Wangaard was on the faculty of the School of Forestry at Yale University for 22 years before being appointed as professor and head of the Department of Forest and Wood Sciences at Colorado State University from 1967 until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Tau Phi Delta and Xi Sigma Pi and a fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science. Frederick Wangaard died on April 10, 2005.
