The Records of the Homecoming Parade consists of documents dated 1978 to 2007, with the bulk falling from 1995 to 2007. The collection contains financials, photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and scrapbooks documenting the planning and activities of the homecoming parade.

History

Colorado Agricultural College (now Colorado State University) hosted its first homecoming in 1914 with a football game of alumni against the collegiate team. In the 1930s the celebration expanded to include a homecoming dance and decoration competition. Over the decades the parade, lighting of the Aggie "A", and bonfire evolved from student events to University traditions. In 1980, Parents Weekend was added, and in 1981 the community was invited to participate in the parade and the homecoming 5K race was established.

Abstract

Homecoming at Colorado State University can be traced back to 1914 when a football game between alumni and the current college team was played. Over the years new traditions were added including painting of the Aggie "A", the bonfire, and the homecoming parade. The collection documents the planning and activities of the homecoming parade, and includes financials, photographs, correspondence, and scrapbooks.

Acquisition

The Records of the Homecoming Parade was transferred by Sonia ImMasche of the Alumni Association in November 2007.
