To facilitate his work, Tipton founded five engineering firms in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1944, he created R. J. Tipton and Associates, which was incorporated in 1946 as a general civil engineering firm and liquidated in 1954. In 1952, he formed R. J. Tipton Associated Engineers, Inc., to provide engineering services in the Western Hemisphere outside of the United States, and he added R. J.
