History

As an affiliate of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association, the Gilpin-Jefferson Livestock Association has represented the needs and interests of cattle and beef producers in Gilpin, Jefferson, Clear Creek, Boulder, Denver, and Broomfield counties for over 87 years. After a preliminary meeting at Black Hawk in 1919, the organization was founded as the Gilpin County Livestock Association the following year. Renamed the Gilpin-Jefferson Livestock Association in 1921, the association and its members have provided home counties for the Colorado Cattlemen's Association as well as for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

Related Collections

The Records of Colorado Cooperative Extension, the Records of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association, and the Records of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, all housed at the Colorado Agricultural Archive, also include information on the production and marketing of beef cattle.

Processing

Processing was completed in September 2008. Materials were re-housed in acid-free folders, letters were unfolded, and metal paper clips were replaced with plastic clips or paper folders. Acidic documents and newspaper clippings were interleaved with acid-free paper. Duplicate copies of flyers were removed, and posters were moved to an oversized folder. The files, originally arranged by year, were rearranged by series.
