Abstract
John Morrill, 1918-1982, was a sports enthusiast whose interest in athletics spurred his broadcasting career. He functioned in many capacities in the sports broadcast industry and as program director and station manager for broadcasting businesses. He served as Executive Director of the Colorado Broadcaster Association from 1972 until his death in 1982 and is credited with building the organization and its national reputation for excellence.
In his honor, the CSU Dick Harris/John Morrill Memorial Scholarship, established in 1993, is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student in the Department of Communication Studies in speech and broadcasting. The Colorado Broadcast Association presented John E. Morrill Broadcast Achievement Awards to honor broadcasters during Morrill’s time as executive director and for a time after his death.
The John Morrill Collection consists of 25 reels of audio tape, 10 years of editions of "Airlines", the Colorado Broadcasters Association newsletter, and correspondence files.
