History
The Colorado Potato Growers Exchange (CPGE) was formed in 1923 to eliminate speculation and waste in the marketing of potatoes. Twenty separate groups banded together as a central statewide selling agency. The CPGE stabilized the potato market so effectively that it later added onions (1928) and pinto beans (1968) to its operations. The CPGE was the first statewide co-operative formed on a commodity basis. The Colorado Potato Warehousing Corporation was organized in June 1925 as a subsidiary of the Exchange and was responsible for warehouses used for grading, packing, and some storage, seed farms, and by-products plants.
