History
A regional affiliate of the Colorado Beekeepers Association, the Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association provides education about beekeeping and promotes the exchange of ideas, materials, and experiences related to apiary pursuits. In addition, the association offers savings in equipment and bees for its members through group purchasing, acts as a clearinghouse for services such as swarm and hive removal, and provides training and mentoring for new beekeepers.
Following a preliminary meeting held in January 1984, a group of beekeepers from Greeley, Loveland, Fort Collins, Brighton, and surrounding areas in Colorado met in Greeley on February 8 to organize as the Northern Colorado Beekeepers Association. Bill Morris of Greeley was elected to serve as the first president, and the by-laws and program of the new organization were patterned after those of the Boulder County Beekeepers Association. The Northern Colorado Beekeepers provided an exhibit for the Larimer County Fair in the summer of 1984, and the association has continued to educate the public with posters, displays, observation hives, and honey samples in elementary school classrooms and at county fairs and other community events during the past 25 years.
