Wilcox was a publisher, editor, and author, working for the Cleveland (Ohio) Leader, the Denver Tribune, the Trinidad (Colo) Daily News, Las Vegas Daily Optic, and the Las Vegas Gazette. He founded the magazine Field and Farm with Captain L.W. Cutler. Though blind, Wilcox was a prolific writer, authoring the books Irrigation Farming and Frontier Sketches, as well as editorials, short stories, and articles.
