The Papers of Lucius "Lute" Wilcox consists of documents dated 1918 to 1930. The collection consists of short stories on Western Americana written by Lute Wilcox. Most titles have two typescript copies. There are a few unidentified writings, either hand-written or typed, and heavily annotated, as well as a couple letters from magazine editors and miscellaneous notes.

Biography

Lute Wilcox was a author of stories of Western Americana. In addition to his writings, he was a successful publisher and editor.

Lucius "Lute" Merle Wilcox was born on August 30, 1858, in Pennsylvania. Wilcox was born with congenital blindness in one eye and lost full sight by 1890. He married Henrietta Stiles of Washington, Indiana, on June 18, 1890. Wilcox was a publisher, editor, and author, working for the Cleveland (Ohio) Leader, the Denver Tribune, the Trinidad (Colo) Daily News, Las Vegas Daily Optic, and the Las Vegas Gazette. He founded the magazine Field and Farm with Captain L.W. Cutler. He was a prolific writer, authoring the books Irrigation Farming and Frontier Sketches, as well as editorials, short stories, and articles. Both he and his wife were very active advocating for citizens who were visually impaired. Wilcox spent ten years as president of the United Workers for the Blind of Colorado.
