Geography

This series consists of reference materials collected by Simpson, arranged into two categories: subjects and geography. The bulk of the series consists of technical reports and publications with some maps, photographs, memos, and letters. Both categories are roughly equal in size. Within the categories and sub-categories, the folders are arranged alphabetically by title, and materials are arranged chronologically within each folder. One item in this series is confidential and restricted from public access.

The first category contains materials pertaining to specific subject areas. Sub-categories were created to further organize the materials where needed, e.g., Groundwater. These subcategories are derived from Simpson's original files and cover a range of water-related subjects such as drought, conservation, groundwater, and water policy. More specific subject areas were created within each subcategory where needed to further organize, e.g., Groundwater - Technical Reports.

The second category contains materials pertaining to geographical locations such as river basins and aquifers. These are largely derived from Simpson's original files and include, among others, the Colorado, Rio Grande, and South Platte rivers. Each location is its own subcategory and, where necessary, additional organization was done within subcategories, e.g., Colorado River – Colorado River Compact. A subcategory for general Colorado water was also created and is found at the end. An item of note in this category is a map, "Colorado River - Actual and Proposed Diversions from Colorado River," dated 1941.
