Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series contains several sets of correspondence files. Though not comprehensive, it does give a flavor of Albertson's relationships, activities, and concerns. The first set of files here was marked "VIP," presumably for "very important people." These are all listed by correspondent's name. The next sets are general files, arranged by letters of the alphabet. Some files in the second alphabetic run have names of organizations or people. This is followed by files arranged by date. The daily correspondence files range from 1983 to 1991. Following these is a group of loose correspondence found throughout the collection, brought together, and foldered by year. Finally, the last set is subject files arranged alphabetically.

All of these files are a mixture of correspondence with students, alumni, colleagues, organizations, and businesses. Some files in the VIP section contain only biographical information. It is important to note the "daily" files are carbon copies of Albertson's outgoing letters. Most of the loose correspondence is actually incoming letters, though there are occasionally copies of responses from Albertson attached. Subjects covered vary widely from professional topics such as engineering courses, international development activities, conferences, and publications to personal topics. There are also letters of recommendation written by Albertson for his graduate students and colleagues. Material types include correspondence (including greeting cards, faxes, and emails), resumes, biographical data, publications, brochures, and notes. Related files can be found in Series 13.

Restrictions on Access

Due to the presence of student information in Subseries 1.1, some files require review before access is granted. Access to student information is open only to the student in question and to Colorado State University employees. However, access to others will be granted upon having written consent from the student or providing written proof that the student is deceased.

All "confidential" markings on correspondence or other materials have been determined to be for administrative purposes, not national security information; therefore, these materials are open for access.

One file in Series 9 is closed until 2034.
