The photographs are arranged in three categories: professional, military, and personal. The professional category contains images of Bureau of Relcamation events, people, and work sites as well as portraits of Ogilvie. See three black binders labeled "Presented to James L. Ogilvie" in Series 1 for additional career-related pictures. Personal photos are further categorized under Ogilvie family, Shank family, cabins and trips, unidentified, and miscellaneous. Photo albums (which are mostly of family members and activities and contain some clippings), photos in decorative folders, large photos, and negatives are housed in a separate box.
