Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Records of the Humanities and Social Sciences College consists of documents dated 1902 to 1993, with the bulk falling from 1968 to 1979. Contents relate to the development and growth of the Division of Science & Arts to the School of Science & Arts to the College of Science & Arts to the School of Humanities & Social Science to the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences and finally to the College of Liberal Arts. Key individuals to the college contributed documentation and can be viewed in the list of Persons within the Index Terms.

Departments such as Anthropology, Art, English, Economics, Journalism, Foreign Languages, History, International Studies, Mathematics, Music, Theater, Dance, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, and Speech are documented. The performing arts center and council, summer session, diversity, committees, task forces, clubs, sororities, and fraternities are also represented. Subjects include students, faculty, staff, curriculum, scholarships, development programs (professional or instruction), funded programs, promotion, administrative roles, staffing, facilities, technology, and equipment. Materials include various forms of documents and correspondence with some blueprints, drawings, photographs, and newspaper clippings.

Most of the collection does not have access restrictions. However, due to files marked confidential or the presence of personally identifiable information (PII), review must occur before access is granted for identified folders within boxes 7, 9, 11-15, 17-18, and 21-27. (See below for folders marked "RESTRICTED".) Access to this information is open only to the individual in question and to Colorado State University employees. However, access to others will be granted upon having written consent from the given individual or providing written proof that the individual is deceased. The collection is stored off-site so advanced notice is required.
