Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This series consists of materials created and gathered by Wright Water Engineers and Wright-McLaughlin Engineers while consulting for the City of Northglenn, Colorado, from the 1970s through the mid-1980s. Northglenn expanded rapidly in the mid-twentieth century, necessitating a significant investment in water infrastructure. The city also had to compete with other growing Denver suburbs, such as Thornton, for water rights. The suburbs purchased stock in irrigation companies north of Denver and brought legal action against the companies and each other to secure their water supply. Wright Water Engineers helped to design Northglenn's water management system and testified in several water rights cases.

The series documents numerous projects related to water rights, construction, augmentation plans, delivery and waste systems, and water treatment. Information concerning the Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Company (FRICO), a mutual ditch company that owns Standley Lake appears frequently in this series. Northglenn gained ownership of some of FRICO's water and use of Standley Lake for storage. Material types include notes, data, meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, legal documents, maps and plans, drawings, photographs, negatives, and microfilm. The series follows the arrangement provided by Wright Water Engineers' numerical project headings and maintains the original file order within each grouping. Note that contracts undertaken by Wright Water Engineers appear with the prefix 701-035, while Wright-McLauglin Engineers' contracts have the prefix 702-035. Several sets of reference materials and correspondence did not have numerical headings. They were given topical headings and listed toward the end. Oversize materials are listed at the end.
