Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This subseries gives a visual representation of Simons' research. Most of the photographs relate to places where he did his research, including Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Mexico, Nepal, Utah, and the Big Thompson River in Colorado. There are also photos of a few events at CSU, as well as some photos from his students' projects related to Wyoming and Mount Saint Helens (Washington). The most complete set of photos is that by Bhowmik and Wend, two of Simons' students who did research on canals in Wyoming. Their materials include rolls of negatives and scrapbooks of photographs. In addition to geographic photos, there are scientific photos, including modeling studies and a decade-long snow survey photography project by Ralph and Max Parshall. The items that relate to previous series are arranged with respect to that order. Unidentified materials are grouped at the end of the main photographic listing. Special formats, including most aerial photographs, lantern slides, and oversized materials, are listed and housed separately. The bulk of the aerial photograph section relates to the Clarks Fork River in Montana. The bulk of the lantern slides depict water features in China.
