Trip to Pearl Harbor as guest of the Secretary of the Navy, 1954-1957

 File — Box: 6, Folder: 1
Identifier: Series 2

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

This small series comprises Nixon's personal papers, but very little documents his personal and family life. Instead, most items relate to awards and recognition Nixon received. The series also includes biographical information through news clippings, a resume, and an obituary. Several folders of letters, brochures, and photographs from a 1957 trip to Pearl Harbor as the special guest of Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) comprise a large part of the series. Nixon did not join the military during World War II; instead he served as Post Coordinator of the Utilities Wartime Aid Program for Herington Army Air Field. Because of his service, SECNAV invited him aboard the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard in 1957 as part of a program to recognize civilian infrastructure administrators. Series 5 contains a certificate from the War Department commending Nixon for his contributions to the war effort. Materials in this series are arranged alphabetically by folder title.
