Scope and Contents
This subseries contains materials created or collected by the Sutherland family while Tom was held hostage in Beirut, Lebanon. Letters and proclamations from politicians, items from remembrance events, and communications and notes from Jean are the most common material types. Of note is the American University in Beirut’s statement of Tom’s abduction, a 1986 National Western Stock Show tribute, and letters from the White House and Department of State. Folders are arranged alphabetically.

Access to the Weekly Reader containing a student grade in Series 8 (box 36) is restricted for 70 years from the date of creation. Some items are stored off-site so advance notice is required.
